Airport takes care of the successful COVID test Station
Tests allow safe trafels/Specialist service for a safe return to Austria/ Cooperation between Salzburg Airport and Medilab
For more than six months COVID has been dominating the headlines. Widespread testing and consistent contact tracing are the order of the day!
At the beginning of the summer season, passengers expressed their wish for a Covid test station at the airport, allowing them to be tested right at the spot, before commencing their journey. Therefore, in August a test station was established in the entrance area of the departure hall, in cooperation with the Red Cross. In order to better meet the increasing demand of people, a new contract was made with medilab, a laboratory located in Salzburg. The samples are taken by paramedics, working for the airport. The test station is located next to the information desk in the arrival`s area. The staff at the information desk offers support concerning all administrative issues. The samples are taken in a secure area, having regard to all hygienic measures and requirements, and are then prepared for their transport to the laboratory.
To prepare the paramedics of Salzburg Airport`s Medical Service optimum for their new task, the Austrian Red Cross as well as specialists from medilab Salzburg offered trainings. The samples are collected several times a day and taken to the laboratory. Details concerning the tests (results, medical questions, technical issues concerning the app) are only given by the laboratory.
Important: Tests are fee-based and can only be taken by symptom-free persons. In case of symptoms, please call 1450 to arrange a free test at one of the test stations of the local Health Authority.
„This test station allows travellers to be checked fast and umcomplicatedly, which prevents people from spreading the virus without knowing", says Dr. Mustafa about this initiative. He recommends that people should take the test about 2-3 days prior to departure, to ensure that the result is available in time. In addition, the intensified collaboration allows more flexibility as far as opening hours are concerned. "We relocated the test station from the former waiting area directly to the counter next to the information desk. This gives people more space while waiting and ensures that the required security distance can easily be minded. In order to protect people at best, everyone is required to wear a facial mask, when entering the terminal", says Christopher Losman, Authorized Signatory, Salzburg Airport. Consistent testing of a high number of people can help controling the virus, even if measures are loosened up.
