Travel Preparation

Make sure that you have all your valid travel documents such as your passport, visa, identification card, flight ticket and means of payment, a few days before your journey starts.

 

 

Tip: Always keep a copy of your documentation at home.

 

Your airline, tour operator or travel agency will inform you about visa requirements of your destination. Applications for visa have to be filed at your the embassy of the country of destination. Each passenger is responsible himself to comply with the relevant entry and leave requirements. Please pay attention to special requirements concerning children.

 

Documents required for travel in EU/EEA states
Non Schengen states

• Great Britain: Valid passport or identification card for Austrian or German citizens.
• Ireland: Valid passport for Austrian or German citizens. Passport must be valid at time of leave.
• Switzerland, Liechtenstein: A passport expired no longer than 5 years ago or a valid personal identity card.
• Bulgaria: Valid passport or identification card for Austrian citizens. German citizens should hold a passport valid at least for the next 3 months.
• Rumania: Valid passport or identification card for Austrian citizens. German citizens should hold a passport valid at least for the next 6 months.
• Cyprus: Valid passport or identification card for Austrian or German citizens.

Documents required for travel in EU/EEA states
Schengen states

Border posts and checks have been removed between the Schengen states. At present: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finnland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden.

 

Although border controls are only performed under special circumstances, travel documents have to be held within the Schengen area. This applies both for Austrians who wish to travel within the Schengen states and for residents from those states who travel to Austria.
